Mama Cloth Pads Review and Giveaway!

Mama cloth. Cloth pads. Moon cloth. Womyn liners. I've heard several names for these reusable, earth and body-friendly cloth pads. If you use pads, then why not consider cloth pads? They came in all kinds of sizes, colors, shapes and absorbencies. You can even have them custom made for your needs.

Reusable pads not only good for the earth; they are good for our health as well. No chemicals, bleaching, irritating paper burn, funky smell or embarrassing crinkly noises! Make the best of your monthly visit with a comfortable, discreet and toxin-free liner.

And, reusable pads are useful for more than Aunt Flo! Use them for the postpartum time after birth and incontinence as well.

Look, I know, a lot of people are probably reading this right now and thinking of some gross, horrible things. Maybe it takes a cloth diapering journey to be open to this idea. I was already using cloth for my babies, so the idea of using cloth on MY nethers sounded great. And it IS. I've been using cloth for me for about two years now and cannot rave enough about it! I've thrown out all decency of conversation hahaha.

Really, I wish all women would give it a chance. (And if liners/pads are not your thing, you can always consider tampon alternatives such as the Diva Cup or Seasponges.) At any rate, all of the strange assurances are true! Using cloth pads, I have experienced lighter flow, less cramping, no rashes, no burning, no infections and no odd scents. And NO yucky adhesive ruining my nice panties! I toss them in the cloth diaper load and rinse/wash with cloth diaper-safe detergent. No fuss.

So I was delighted to be given an opportunity to review a cloth pad sample set handmade by Sarah Beth Artel, owner of Baby Bleiu and Mama, Too.  (Get it? Cloth for babies and women.)

I've tried a few WAHM versions, Treehugger, Party in My Pants, Luna Pads, etc. And like I said, I've been using cloth for about 2 years now, in various situations ranging from regular cycles, to pregnancy incontinence (sad face haha) to the postpartum lochia.

So, when I tried out this sample pack, I was quite the discerning cloth user. I knew what could make a pad uncomfortable or annoying, such as not being shaped correctly or having too much bulk.

Here is the fun sample pack I received in the mail!

That's when I was really, truly excited to find out that Sarah's pads rock my undies! I even made a status about moon walking. Ha, get it?

Things I loved:
  • They had two snaps on the wings to adjust the sizing to fit all of your unmentionables.
  • They had great absorbency without being squishy or bulky.
  • They were smooth and rounded, a good shape to remain discreet even in my jogging clothes.

Smooth, discreet, absorbent...and free of toxic chemicals and stinks!

(And the cute print was definitely an added plus. Hey, I'll take anything positive about monthly menstrual cycles!)

Really, the whimsy adds a lot!

You've read about them, now you can have a chance to win them! Sarah is offering a "Mama Cloth Sample Pack" to one randomly selected winner in the U.S. This pack is retailed at $25.00 and the winner can choose the print.

Winner will receive:
-1 Overnight/Postpartum pad made with 1 layer of Zorb II and 1 layer of OBF, hidden PUL and cotton outer
-1 Heavy day pad made with 4 layers OBF, hidden PUL, and cotton outer

  1. Great giveaway! I'm due with my second in September and definitely want to use mama cloth for the postparum bleeding. The only thing stopping me at this point is that there are so many options and I don't know where to start! So this would be perfect. :)

  4. After cloth diapering, I wanted to try cloth pads too. It just seems to make sense from a sustainability standpoint. And it seems much less gross, now that I've cloth diapered for 8 months.

  5. I have actually used mama cloth in the past & love it! I would be really interested to use mama cloth postpartum, but am worried about leaking. Even so, I'd be happy to try these out!

  6. I love the print "Flowers on brown!" It was really hard to choose though. :)

  7. I want to try mama cloth because it's healthier than always using tampons and I'd save money in the long run. I hesitate because of the cleanup (I'll admit, it seems a bit gross, I don't have kids yet) and spending more money initially. So this giveaway would be perfect for me to test it out.

  9. I want to try mama cloth because they are healthier than always using tampons, and they would save me money in the long run. I hesitate because I admit, cleanup seems gross (I don't have kids yet so no cloth diapering experiences to compare to). Also, spending more money initially on something I'm not sure will work for me kind of scares me. That's why this giveaway would be perfect for me, so I can try Mama cloth, which I have been considering for some time now!

  10. I would choose the dinosaurs or the Wall-E print.
I haven't tried mama cloth but I want to because we are TTC and this would be awesome to use during my time of the month and postpartum when we do get lucky to have another child. I just get nervous cause I don't want to leak

I am nervous about using mama cloth cause I don't want to leak or be uncomfortable but we cloth diaper so I'm thinking mama cloth would be ok to use. Since we are TTC this would be helpful until we got pregnant and then afterward in the postpartum phase.

my g+ acct isn't linked to my fb though, so i guess i should include my initials at least? ~lm

  25. I am really interested in trying these, pads always irritate my skin and even after the nurse told me to switch brands i still get the same result. They seem like a great way to save money and my skin i'm only a little worried about the cleaning part of it all but i dont want to knock it till i try it

  28. I'd love to give these a try, I've been trending towards natural for a while now, sea sponges are my current thing, but I miss pads sometimes! The thing holding me back the most is the cost, especially if I don't turn out to be a fan.

  29. I'm loving the cassette tapes! How cool is that! :D

  30. I have 'tried' a handful of mama cloth in the past. Have yet to find one that 'fits'.. usually ended up using diaper inserts, :P Went back to disposable diapers, ahem I mean pads... only to find I have the same issue my babies do. Allergic to the sposies, nothing like a diaper rash, ugh!

  37. I've been wanting to try cloth pads because I'd like to be able to save money in the long run, but there's so much out there, it's hard to decide which ones would be best for me without trying all of them and breaking the bank! We use cloth diapers for our baby, so why not cloth pads for me? Thanks for the giveaway!

  38. Hmmm... Picking a favorite fabric is a difficult choice - you have so many to choose from! I think my two favorites are the Girl John Deere and the top blue & brown Butterfly print with the little flowers.

  57. I want to try mama cloth because I get very agitated with plastic pads.

One reason I'm hesitating is because I don't know that I'd want to handle the dirty pads and throw them into the washing machine lol

  65. I'd like to try mama cloth since I am an advocate of cloth diapers, but I'm a little concerned about the outlay in case I don't like them. It's not like you can list slightly used mama cloth on Craigslist, right?

  67. My favourite patterns are the Gypsy and Birds of Norway patterns, though a set with Zoo 1 would be pretty funny -- sometimes it seems like a jungle down there!

  68. I've made a few mama cloth pads and bought some for post party. I like them because they don't have chemicals like traditional pads. I'm a little skeptical because they seem to not hold in place. I thought because I made them so I bought some and they still do the same thing so I am wondering if I am mama cloth inept ;-)

  74. Well I noticed that my comment for the reasons didn't post. I want to try the mama cloth because in a way I am willing to try new things, and desiring to become more "green," if you will. I am hesitant with the upfront costs and cleanliness of the product! :]
